Following the stitch line.
Two brown Bund straps show how a stitch line can describe the curve of the pad or sit quietly within it.
A line around the leather
On the cognac archive piece, the light thread draws a clear line around the strap. It travels along the narrow end, opens into the curve beside the case and returns towards the buckle. In the view without the watch, that line makes the shaped centre especially easy to read.
The short transverse stitches near the watch attachments are visible too. They give the eye another reference for the construction: the long outer curve and the ends of the upper leather sections can be followed separately.
The quieter brown example
The dark-brown series shows a closer relationship between the leather and the thread. The stitches remain visible, but their pink-brown appearance in these photographs is less emphatic than the pale line on the cognac piece. The shape is there without such a strong border.
Compare the same area on each strap: a shoulder beside the case, followed by the long edge towards the buckle. Looking only at a macro crop can exaggerate the importance of the thread. The full view shows how much of it you would notice alongside the dial and case.
Choosing the amount of contrast
A useful first decision is whether you want the stitching to outline the strap clearly. Start with that preference, then discuss the actual thread and leather together. The examples here offer two different visual relationships, even though both let you follow the perimeter.
Lighting and screens affect the colours in the pictures. Use the archive to explain the effect you like rather than treating a sampled pixel as a thread specification.
